Bangkok: Yutthaporn Isarachai, an Associate Professor at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, has highlighted the strategic moves of the Bhumjaithai Party as they position themselves for a political comeback. The party is focusing on bringing in skilled individuals, thereby enhancing their potential to lead the government.
According to Thai News Agency, Yutthaporn commented on Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew's presence at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters, suggesting multiple political opportunities for him. These include potentially becoming a prime ministerial candidate or appearing on the party-list for the House of Representatives. Yutthaporn emphasized that if the Bhumjaithai Party assumes leadership, Sihasak will likely continue handling foreign affairs, leveraging his expertise in the role.
Yutthaporn further noted that Sihasak's role is not as a political catalyst but rather as a reflection of the party's commitment to appointing competent individuals. He mentioned other significant figures within the party, such as Ekniti Nitithanpraphas and Supajee Suthamphan, who hold vital positions in the national administration.
Yutthaporn lauded Sihasak's previous tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs, noting his effective management of Thai-Cambodian border issues. He suggested that Sihasak's potential reappointment is likely, given Anutin Charnvirakul's more than 50% chance of returning as Prime Minister. Despite possible challenges, Yutthaporn believes the Bhumjaithai Party's ability to negotiate and build alliances will aid in forming a government.
Yutthaporn predicts close competition between the Bhumjaithai Party and the People's Party, with the Pheu Thai Party trailing. The election is expected to be intense, with close numbers of MPs among the top parties. However, the Bhumjaithai Party's ability to attract various political groups enhances their prospects of governmental leadership.
