Bowornsak Clarifies No Issues After Anutin’s Alleged Improper Appointment of Thammanat

Bangkok: Bovornsak Uwanno, Deputy Prime Minister, stated there was no problem after Anutin Charnvirakul was accused of improperly appointing Thammanat to a ministerial position, emphasizing that Thammanat had already vacated his ministerial post. He highlighted that verifying qualifications is the duty of the Cabinet Secretariat, and the issue underwent thorough investigation by nine agencies. He noted that the Prime Minister had not sought his consultation on this matter, and he had not been approached for another term as Deputy Prime Minister.

According to Thai News Agency, Bowornsak addressed the question of whether the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, had sought his advice regarding the verification of new cabinet ministers' qualifications. He stated that this had not occurred yet, but clarified that the Cabinet Secretariat is responsible for submitting the names of potential ministers to verify if they possess any disqualifying characteristics. The investigation has expanded to over nine agencies, including the courts, the Administrative Court, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), the Special Branch Police, and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO).

Regarding individuals considered high-risk, Bowornsak mentioned the need for clarification on the definition of "high-risk," noting that possessing disqualifying characteristics does not necessarily equate to being high-risk but rather indicates unsuitability.

When questioned about the complaint against the Prime Minister concerning alleged improper appointment of ministers, and whether the issue was resolved, Bowornsak stated that the Constitution outlines prohibited qualifications once a position is held. He noted that once the position is occupied, the issue ceases to exist.

Bowornsak also addressed media interest in court rulings against former Minister of Interior Phumtham Vejchai and former Minister of Justice Pol. Col. Thawi Sodsong, indicating that the court's decision was in the public interest and that their actions as ministers did not interfere with the judicial process.

When asked if the Prime Minister's appointment of Captain Thamanat Promphao as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives was a closed matter, Bowornsak stated that Thamanat is no longer holding a ministerial position.

Regarding whether Anutin has been approached to return as Deputy Prime Minister, Bowornsak responded that it hasn't happened yet, as nothing has been officially confirmed. He mentioned that discussions so far are largely media speculation. As for his willingness to continue working, he stated uncertainty, noting that it is not a hypothetical situation.
