Cabinet Approves Draft Statement for APEC Education Ministerial Meeting

Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved the draft joint statement for the 7th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting (AEMM). Mr. Karom Polpornklang, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that while the Cabinet has given its approval, the Ministry of Education has the flexibility to make adjustments to the draft statement, provided these changes do not affect its core substance or conflict with the principles already approved by the Cabinet. The Ministry of Education has also been authorized to endorse the joint statement on May 14, 2025, in Jeju Province, Republic of Korea.

According to Thai News Agency, the 7th APEC Education Ministers Meeting is scheduled for May 13-15, 2025. It serves as a high-level forum for policy discussions among APEC economies, allowing education ministers to share perspectives on educational challenges and set strategic directions. The meeting will focus on the theme 'Bridging Educational Gaps and Promoting Inclusive Growth in the Era of Digital Transformation'. It aims to utilize digital technologies to address educational disparities and promote sustainable growth. The joint statement is slated for adoption on May 14, 2025, having been circulated among APEC member economies for review.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Department of International Economic Affairs, has reviewed the draft joint statement and found no issues with its substance or overall wording. Additional comments were provided regarding wording adjustments, but the statement is not considered a treaty under international law or a written agreement under Section 178 of the Thai Constitution. The matter, being related to international relations and binding on the Thai government, is suitable for submission to the Cabinet under Section 4 (7) of the Royal Decree on Proposals and Cabinet Meetings B.E. 2548.
