Nonthaburi: A heart-stopping incident occurred when a 56-year-old man drove his car into the water, captured by a dashboard camera. A bystander attempted to intervene by breaking the car window, but the vehicle became fully submerged before help could reach the driver.

According to Thai News Agency, the Bang Bua Thong Police Station received a report of a car accident last night involving a vehicle losing control and plunging into the water. The tragic event unfolded at the U-turn under the bridge on Saphan Nonthaburi-Bang Bua Thong Road, within the Lam Pho Subdistrict of Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province. The car ended up in Khlong Lak Khon, a waterway approximately three meters deep. Volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, supported by divers, initiated a search and rescue operation that lasted around 20 minutes.

The rescue team discovered the driver, identified as Mr. Neti Nuengnusonthi, inside the submerged vehicle. He was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and long jeans and appeared to be unconscious. The officers noted wounds on his elbows and a scratch on his right shoulder blade. Despite receiving first aid onshore for over an hour, he succumbed to his injuries.

Dashboard camera footage from another vehicle that was traveling behind Mr. Nuengnusonthi's car showed the moment his vehicle veered past a concrete barrier before diving into the water.

Mr. Thiwat, a 23-year-old witness, recounted that he was driving on an errand when he saw the car speed past in the opposite lane. Acting quickly, he turned his car around in an attempt to assist, calling two friends to aid in the rescue. Despite their efforts to break the car's window and pull the driver to safety, the vehicle sank completely, and the deceased could not be saved.

Mr. Thiwat explained that after the car submerged, he contacted emergency services for assistance. Divers arrived shortly and managed to retrieve the driver's body, confirming his death. They secured the vehicle with ropes to prevent it from drifting away. Mr. Thiwat expressed deep regret over his inability to save Mr. Nuengnusonthi.
