Chiang Mai Mayor Initiates Goose Experiment to Enhance Moat Water Quality

Chiang mai: The Chiang Mai Mayor has initiated an innovative experiment involving the raising of geese in the Chiang Mai city moat. The initiative aims to utilize the geese to feed on duckweed and weeds, potentially improving the water quality of the moat. Officials have been appointed to oversee and maintain the order of this experimental activity.

According to Thai News Agency, Chiang Mai Mayor Asanee Buranupakorn explained that the geese are being housed along the riverbank, with plans to construct an additional pen in the middle of the water. The experiment is set to run for seven days, during which officials will monitor the geese's activities and ensure the project's orderly progression. Each night, the geese will be returned to their pen for safety and management purposes.

The project has raised concerns regarding potential water pollution due to the geese's droppings. However, it is believed that the droppings will serve as nourishment for fish in the moat, thus not posing a pollution threat. In a bid to further enhance water quality, Chiang Mai Municipality plans to release 40,000 fish into the moat. A detailed evaluation and review will follow the experiment to decide on the project's future viability.
