Ream naval base: A Type 056 corvette from China has arrived in Cambodia, with the delivery scheduled for April 8th.
According to Thai News Agency, a high-ranking naval source revealed that yesterday, at approximately 10:00 AM, the Type 056 guided-missile corvette of the Cambodian Navy, delivered from the People's Republic of China, docked at Pier 1 of Ream Naval Base with its full crew.
The handover ceremony, set for 9:00 AM on April 8th, marks a significant milestone in military cooperation between China and Cambodia. This project involves the supply of two Type 056 corvettes to the Cambodian Navy, aimed at bolstering its naval capabilities and enhancing operational potential. The delivery of the second unit is still underway, with approximately 70% completion reported, and it is expected to be delivered by June 2026.
The acceptance inspection of the corvette took place in October 2025, with Mr. Tea Banh participating in the process. This military reinforcement has raised regional concerns, as Cambodia's increasing naval weapons capabilities amid coastal tensions have prompted Thailand and its neighbors to closely monitor the expansion of maritime power in the area.
The Type 056 (Jiangdao-class) corvette is a small-to-medium-sized warship primarily designed for coastal defense in China. It features a displacement of 1,300-1,500 tons and is equipped with YJ-83 anti-ship guided missiles and HHQ-10 missiles for close-range air defense.
