Clashes Escalate on Thai-Cambodian Border as Ceasefire Deadline Ignored

Surin: Clashes intensified along the Surin border as Cambodia ignored the Malaysian Prime Minister's ceasefire deadline and fired upon Thailand early in the morning. Authorities warned of potential unrest along the Phanom Dong Rak-Kap Choeng route. Meanwhile, in Trat province, Cambodian artillery shells landed on a roadside in a village; no injuries were reported.

According to Thai News Agency, the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border in Surin province remains worrying. Cambodia disregarded the ceasefire deadline set by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and continued to fire artillery and BM-21 rockets at Thailand since this morning. Heavy clashes occurred near Ta Kwai Temple and Chong Krang Pass. Intense fighting is expected throughout the day. Authorities have raised the alert level to the highest level and are requesting that those not involved avoid Route 224 between Phanom Dong Rak and Kap Choeng for their safety. Currently, there are no reports of damage, and investigations are underway.

In Trat province, Cambodia fired artillery shells across the border from Ban Sam Lang, landing on the roadside in the village. The shells exploded, creating a crater next to a banana tree. No houses were damaged and no civilians were injured as villagers had already evacuated. A warning has been issued to passersby to exercise caution as both sides are still exchanging fire, having paused around noon. Another round of exchanges is expected in the afternoon.
