BANGKOK: The Meteorological Department has forecasted cool weather across Thailand as the country prepares to welcome the New Year, with cooler temperatures expected on mountaintops and hills. However, the southern regions are likely to experience thunderstorms.
According to Thai News Agency, a high-pressure system or moderate cold air mass is influencing the upper parts of Thailand and the upper South, leading to cool to cold conditions in the Northeastern and Northern regions. The Central region, including Bangkok, the Eastern region, and upper Southern region, will see cool temperatures. Meanwhile, mountaintops and hilltops are expected to experience very cold weather. Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions for their health due to the cold and remain vigilant against potential fire hazards resulting from dry conditions.
The moderate northeast monsoon affecting the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea is anticipated to bring thunderstorms to parts of the lower South. The Gulf of Thailand will experience moderate waves, with the lower Gulf seeing waves about 2 meters high and higher waves in areas with thunderstorms. The upper Gulf will have waves ranging from 1 to 2 meters in height. The Andaman Sea is expected to have waves around 1 meter high, increasing to 1-2 meters in areas far from the shore. In regions experiencing thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters, prompting caution among sailors and advising them to avoid sailing in thunderstorm-affected areas.
Dust accumulation remains a concern in upper Thailand, with a moderate build-up of dust and smog anticipated to continue due to moderate ventilation conditions.
