SU-NGAI PADI: A ranger was fatally shot during an intelligence operation in Narathiwat Province, with his vehicle subsequently set on fire, in what is believed to be an insurgent attack. The incident has prompted a swift response from law enforcement and military personnel in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, police and soldiers were dispatched to Ban Khok Ta, Tambon Paluru in the Su-ngai Padi district following reports of a gunman targeting a ranger and setting a pickup truck ablaze. The attack claimed the life of Sergeant Major Anan Maneechote, an intelligence officer from the 48th Ranger Regiment Special Operations Unit. His body was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds next to a burning white Mitsubishi pickup truck, which was nearly destroyed by the flames.
The initial investigation suggests that Sergeant Major Anan was tending to cattle behind his wife's garden when the attack occurred. Villagers reported hearing several gunshots before witnessing the vehicle engulfed in flames and finding the officer's lifeless body. Officials suspect that the attack was orchestrated by local insurgents, a recurring threat in the region.
