Bangkok: The Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) has issued a public warning regarding scams targeting individuals during the ongoing flood crisis. These scams involve the fraudulent sale of essential items and the distribution of counterfeit cash-on-delivery (COD) packages.
According to Thai News Agency, scammers are deceitfully offering essential products such as boats, water pumps, generators, sandbags, and waterproof boots without actually providing these items. These items are often advertised at prices below market value or labeled as "QC reject" or "last quota" to attract buyers. Scammers pressure victims to transfer a deposit or the full payment quickly by claiming the items are in limited supply and will sell out soon. Once payment is made, the scam pages are closed, communication is blocked, or victims receive incorrect items, such as receiving a rock instead of a water pump.
The fake COD scam involves delivering unsolicited packages to homes, falsely labeled as containing essential items like water pump parts or emergency repair equipment. These packages are made to appear credible during the crisis. The scam relies on collecting COD payments for small amounts, leading recipients to mistakenly pay, believing someone else in the household ordered the package to address the emergency situation.
