Delivery Rider Deceived by Woman in Costly Scam

Sai mai: A delivery rider in Sai Mai is seeking assistance after falling victim to a scam orchestrated by a woman who ordered goods worth tens of thousands of baht and then failed to make the payment, leaving him responsible for the cost.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wutthichai Thianmura, the affected rider, shared that on May 9th, he was tasked with delivering a package containing gaming equipment valued at 15,702 baht to a condominium in the Pracha Chuen area. Upon arrival, the customer claimed she was busy and requested 5-10 minutes to transfer the payment, instructing Mr. Wutthichai to leave the package at a designated drop-off point. However, after he placed the package, the scammer quickly arranged for another delivery rider to pick it up and deliver it to an actual address in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi province, over 20 kilometers away, before blocking his contact and becoming unreachable.

Further investigation into the scammer's activities within online social groups for the transportation profession revealed a troubling pattern. The scammer has been known to repeatedly change names and addresses while using the same phone number but altering nicknames between different condominiums. The primary targets are easily traded items, especially costly gaming equipment, likely intended for resale in the professional market. To date, 4-5 other delivery personnel have fallen prey to this scam, with collective losses nearing 100,000 baht.

Mr. Wutthichai, who has been working as a delivery rider for just four months, expressed that he had to deplete his savings to compensate the company for the goods. He warned fellow riders to ensure payment is received before leaving packages and advised against closing delivery jobs if payment has not been finalized.
