Nan: "Jaset" visits Nan province to inspect landslide affecting Ban Doi Tiew School, orders stricter safety measures, and approves a 3.9 million baht budget for the construction of a temporary school building.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth, Deputy Minister of Interior, visited Ban Doi Tiew School in Sri Phum Subdistrict, Tha Wang Pha District, Nan Province, to assess the impact of landslides and cracks affecting the school canteen, cooperative store, swimming pool, and kindergarten building. He was accompanied by several key officials including Mr. Chainarong Wongyai, Governor of Nan Province, and other local leaders and authorities.
On this occasion, Mr. Jetset and his team visited the site of the landslide and assessed the impact on various buildings at Ban Doi Tiew School. The Governor of Nan Province has issued an order prohibiting entry to or evacuation of buildings and areas at risk, effective from September 15, 2026, until further notice. Ban Doi Tiew School has also issued a notice closing off the at-risk area to prevent potential danger.
Mr. Jetset stated that he has coordinated with relevant agencies to ensure a temporary solution for the affected school. A budget of 3.9 million baht has been allocated for the construction of a new temporary school building on the sports field of the Sri Phum Subdistrict Administrative Organization. The project is expected to be completed within 90 days, and measures are being taken to ensure continuity in education through stable internet support.
The school is currently using an on-hand teaching method, and regular teaching is expected to resume after the completion of the new building. Mr. Jetset also instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to survey other high-risk areas throughout the province and conduct emergency response drills. He emphasized the need for alarm systems and coordinated with the Provincial Electricity Authority to address power supply issues.
These efforts aim to prevent potential incidents that could affect education and daily life in Nan Province beyond the immediate area of Ban Doi Tiew School.
