Bangkok: Eight strict checkpoints have been established to conduct background checks on ministers in Anutin's second government. These checkpoints are manned by key agencies and are designed to ensure the integrity and qualifications of prospective ministers whose names have been submitted to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
According to Thai News Agency, the background checks involve several critical agencies. The Royal Thai Police (RTP) is responsible for checking criminal records, lawsuits, and any prison sentences. The Office of the Judiciary is tasked with verifying information related to lawsuits, cases under consideration, or court judgments. The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) examines allegations of corruption, illicit enrichment, or serious ethical violations against individuals.
Further scrutiny is conducted by the Constitutional Court Office, which checks for any past rulings related to political disqualifications. The Department of Legal Execution is charged with verifying the bankruptcy status of the individuals in question. The Election Commission (EC) ensures that candidates meet qualifications concerning political party membership and any prohibitions under election law.
Additional checks are performed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which investigates shareholdings in companies that are legally prohibited, such as those involved in government concessions or media outlets. Lastly, the Office of the Attorney General reviews the indictment status of criminal cases.
