Election Commission Enforces Strict Alcohol Ban During Bangkok and Pattaya Elections

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has issued a stern warning regarding the prohibition of alcohol sales during the upcoming elections in Bangkok and Pattaya. The ECT emphasizes that the sale, distribution, or serving of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden from 6:00 PM on Saturday until 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 28. Violators of this rule are warned of severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment.

According to Thai News Agency, the prohibition applies to the Bangkok Governor, Bangkok City Council, and Pattaya City Mayor and City Council elections. The ECT is urging all eligible voters to participate in these elections, which will take place on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at their registered polling stations. The alcohol ban is intended to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process, free from disruptions or misconduct.

The legal framework supporting this ban includes Section 123 of the Local Council Member or Local Administrator Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019) and its amendments. Violators could face imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both. The ECT calls on all parties to adhere strictly to these regulations to maintain the integrity and transparency of the election process. Voters are encouraged to fulfill their civic duty by participating in the elections, contributing to a fair and impartial democratic exercise.
