Zurich: FIFA is preparing to increase the number of teams in the 2030 World Cup to 64. Gianni Infantino, president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), hinted that FIFA will study the possibility of increasing the number of teams participating in the World Cup finals by 16 teams, from the current 48 to 64 teams in the 2030 World Cup.
According to Thai News Agency, Infantino revealed that the idea of increasing the number of teams was to give more nations a chance to participate in the World Cup, because the World Cup is not just for Europe and South America. Furthermore, it would also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the FIFA World Cup in the 2030 World Cup. This matter will be discussed at the FIFA committee meeting immediately after the 2026 World Cup.
