Pattani: Flash floods in Sai Khao Waterfall National Park, Pattani Province, have led to the tragic drowning of two female tourists. Officials have confirmed the recovery of both victims' bodies.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. when officials received a report of two tourists being swept away by a sudden flash flood at Sai Khao Waterfall National Park. In response, the park officials coordinated with the Pho Ngoen Khok Pho Rescue Association and the Sai Khao Subdistrict Administrative Organization Rescue Unit for assistance in locating the missing individuals.
The search operation lasted over three hours. The body of Ms. Nimusliha, aged 18, was discovered in the lower part of the park, while Ms. Firdao, aged 17, was found at 5:40 p.m. in the upper section, nearly a kilometer apart from each other. The bodies were subsequently taken to Khok Pho Hospital for autopsy by the investigation officers of Khok Pho Police Station before being returned to their families for religious rites.
Investigations revealed that prior to the incident, the victims were enjoying the water when heavy rain began. Park officials issued warnings to tourists at various locations, advising them to exit the water. Despite a headcount showing fewer than 30 tourists present, most heeded the warning and began to leave. However, at around 4:30 p.m., the flash flood occurred, and it was reported that the two victims had slipped off rocks and drowned.
