Government Takes Urgent Action to Address Fuel Shortage at Gas Stations

Bangkok: The Deputy Director-General of the Department of Energy explains that the government is urgently addressing the fuel shortage at gas stations.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Patcharee Jongrak, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Conservation, addressed media inquiries regarding social media posts about potential fuel quota cuts for operators or transportation issues leading to insufficient fuel availability. She noted that the Minister of Energy had clarified the situation, attributing the problem to a surge in energy demand, particularly for fuel, which has caused transportation challenges.

Ms. Patcharee highlighted that several measures have been put into place to tackle the issue, such as increasing the number of transport routes and seeking cooperation from operators to manage fuel stocks effectively in line with consumer demand. Crucially, certain previous restrictions on transport routes have been lifted to enhance transportation capacities. This includes exemptions for vehicles that might have surpassed their standard operating hours, thus enabling more extensive transport efforts. She confirmed that this situation does not entail cutting fuel quotas at gas stations.
