Grandma Recounts Terrifying Bullet Incident as Myanmar Conflict Spills Over to Thai Border

Mae sot: The fighting situation in Myanmar remains tense, resulting in alarming incidents on the Thai side of the border where bullets have injured villagers. A 67-year-old woman was injured when a bullet penetrated her home.

According to Thai News Agency, the ongoing conflict between the Myanmar military and opposition forces continues to escalate along the Thai-Myanmar border. The clashes, marked by the exchange of heavy machine gun fire and aerial bombings in Myawaddy District, opposite Ban Mai Mae Kon Ken in Mae Sot District, have created a perilous environment. The Myanmar military's use of aircraft to drop bombs has intensified the situation, with loud explosions reverberating throughout the area.

The spillover of the conflict has severely impacted the Thai side, particularly in Mae Kon Ken village. Ms. Warisara Phromma, a 25-year-old gas station owner, experienced a close call when a war bullet hit her gas pump, fortunately avoiding a fire. Additionally, several rounds of bullets from unknown forces landed inside her home, posing a significant threat to her safety.

Another individual affected by these events is 67-year-old Mrs. Laopin. While sleeping in her bedroom, a small-caliber bullet struck her thigh, causing injury. In the aftermath, officials provided her with comfort and support. Mrs. Laopin recounted hearing numerous gunshots and explosions before the bullet injured her, prompting her to seek help from a neighbor who took her to the hospital.

In response to the escalating conflict, authorities have temporarily closed all natural crossings along the Thai-Myanmar border for seven days to ensure effective border control in Tak Province. Officials have been stationed to secure these crossings, aiming to maintain stability in the region.
