Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued its ninth bulletin warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting Thailand, with these conditions expected to persist until May 18, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, the continuous rainfall is impacting various regions, including the North, Central, East, and South of Thailand. This weather pattern is attributed to the strengthening southwest monsoon that currently covers the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The department has cautioned residents in these areas to be vigilant due to the potential for flash floods and landslides, particularly in slope regions near waterways and low-lying areas. Additionally, the public is advised to take care of their health during these changing weather conditions.
The sea conditions are notably rough, with waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand reaching significant heights. In the upper Andaman Sea, from Phuket northward, waves are reported to be 2-3 meters high, exceeding 3 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Similarly, in the lower Andaman Sea, from Krabi southward, and in the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are approximately 2 meters high, surpassing 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm-affected areas, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore.
