High Tensions in Strait of Hormuz Prompt Urgent Coordination for Repatriation of Thai Workers

Bangkok: Tensions are high in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting urgent coordination with Israel to repatriate the bodies of Thai workers as soon as possible. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that it has helped 1,283 Thai citizens return from the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv is coordinating with the Israeli government to expedite the repatriation of the bodies of Thai workers and is following up on compensation payments from Israel. The Ministry emphasized the urgent need for negotiations to resolve the tense situation.

According to Thai News Agency, the Center for Monitoring and Managing the Situation in the Middle East (CMAS) reported that the situation in the Middle East remains volatile, with ongoing retaliations among conflicting parties, including Hezbollah. Attacks have expanded to energy infrastructure across the region, impacting global economic stability and energy security. Military operations near the Iranian coast by the United States and Israel aim to reopen shipping lanes, with the U.S. Department of Defense planning to deploy additional Marines to the Middle East.

Iranian authorities have confirmed the death of a spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in an Israeli airstrike. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the deaths of Thai workers in Israel, urging all parties to return to negotiations and diplomatic processes to end the tense situation, in line with international law and the United Nations Charter.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv is working closely with the Israeli government to expedite the repatriation of the deceased Thai worker's body. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the Ministry of Labour, is also following up on compensation and related benefits from Israel. Efforts are underway to assist the three Thai crew members on the USS "Mayuree Naree," with Thailand coordinating with Omani and Iranian authorities for their rescue.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Thai citizens in the Middle East to monitor the situation through official channels and follow instructions. Since the conflict began, 1,283 Thai citizens have been evacuated to Thailand or a third country. The Thai government remains committed to assisting its citizens affected by the conflict, ensuring their safe evacuation from dangerous areas as soon as possible.
