Rayong: Immigration officials conducted a raid on a Chinese-funded construction site spanning over 100 rai (approximately 40 acres) in Moo 6, Ban Chang Subdistrict, Ban Chang District, Rayong Province. The raid, which took place on August 11, 2026, followed a tip-off regarding the illegal employment of foreign workers.
According to Thai News Agency, the inspection revealed over 400 laborers of Chinese, Myanmar, and other nationalities working and residing at the site. The presence of authorities caused panic among the workers, leading to chaotic scenes as many attempted to flee. Some workers ran into nearby forests or jumped into a canal in an effort to escape, while others remained seated and refused to disclose their nationalities. In the ensuing confusion, several workers took advantage of the situation to evade capture temporarily.
Once the situation was under control, authorities arrested a total of 24 undocumented foreign workers, including 20 Myanmar nationals and 4 Chinese nationals. These individuals were initially charged with "being a foreigner working without a work permit." They were subsequently taken into custody and handed over to investigators at Ban Chang Police Station for further legal proceedings. Immigration officers in Rayong Province have been notified to prepare for their deportation.
In addition to the arrests, authorities are investigating the employment details and documents of the workers at the construction site. The investigation aims to identify and take legal action against those responsible for the illegal employment practices.
