Investigation Ordered into Bangkok Police Over Gambling Den Raids

Bangkok: An investigation has been ordered into five senior officers from Bueng Kum and Nimit Mai police stations following a raid on a gambling den by local authorities. The probe aims to determine the involvement of these officers in the raid on two gambling dens located in Hathairat and Seri Thai districts.

According to Thai News Agency, a special operations unit of the Department of Provincial Administration, led by Mr. Ronnarong Thipsiri, Director of the Law Enforcement Operations Center, conducted the raid in central Bangkok's Hathairat and Serithai areas. The operation led to the arrest of over 100 gamblers and the seizure of evidence worth millions of baht.

Recently, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, announced that following the incident, he instructed Police Major General Prasong Anmanee, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 3, and Police Major General Kampanat Arunkeeriroj, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 4, to establish a committee. The committee's task is to investigate whether the local police stations were negligent or failed to enforce the law. Should it be found that they neglected their duties and permitted the operation of gambling dens, disciplinary action will ensue, potentially resulting in the reassignment of the five senior officers from each station to other duties as per procedure.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command has emphasized its commitment to addressing the issue, instructing its subordinates to rigorously crack down on gambling dens and other vice activities. The command has mandated the Metropolitan Investigation Division and the Crime Suppression Division to gather intelligence and address public complaints. Continuous arrests have been reported to date.
