IoT Team Surveys Khmer Villages Encroaching on Thai Border

Ban nong chan: IoT visited Ban Nong Chan to survey a Cambodian village that was encroaching on Thai sovereignty. The villagers expressed their resentment at the Cambodian occupation of their land.

According to Thai News Agency, at 4:00 PM in Nong Chan Subdistrict, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, the Royal Thai Army led a team of temporary observers (IOTs) from eight countries to the Thai-Cambodian border to investigate Cambodia's encroachment on Thai sovereignty. They also reported on boundary markers 46 and 48, located within the area, and were informed of measures to control and prevent transnational illegal activities, such as online crimes and illegal immigration.

As soon as the temporary observer team surveyed the area, they came across a small village with the remains of buildings, houses, and factories that over 200 Cambodian families had illegally built. Previously, the military had pushed them out of the area without using any weapons. After the operation was completed, they installed shade nets and barbed wire fences as a defense line, not as a boundary marker.

Reporters also reported that during the temporary observer team and media presence in the area, Cambodians attempted to sneak a peek along the barricades, prompting military officials to request their cooperation not to approach the area too closely.
