Bangkok: Kla Tham Party opened its doors to Mr. Chaiya Brahma and a group of former Members of Parliament from Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai parties as they prepare to contest in the upcoming election. They emphasized their long-standing political alliance and discouraged the label of "political turncoats," highlighting their shared history dating back to the Thai Rak Thai era.
According to Thai News Agency, the Kla Tham Party, led by Captain Thamanat Phromphao, the party's chief advisor, introduced its new members. These include Mr. Chaiya Phromma, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from the Pheu Thai Party; Mr. Sakda Kongphet, former MP for Roi Et; Dr. Phumin Leethiraprasert, former MP for Si Sa Ket Constituency 4; Ms. Nuchanat Charuwongsethian, former MP for Si Sa Ket Constituency 9; Mr. Wutthichai Kittithanesworn, former MP for Nakhon Nayok, as well as his son, Mr. Piyawat Kittithanesworn; and Mr. Kunakorn Mannateerai, former MP for Nonthaburi from the Prachachon Party.
Captain Thamanat expressed confidence in Mr. Chaiya's capabilities, particularly noting his past achievements in tackling issues related to smuggling and agriculture, which were instrumental in increasing pork prices. He invited Mr. Chaiya to join Kla Tham Party to continue their shared focus on the agricultural sector, where Mr. Chaiya had previously served as Deputy Minister.
Dr. Phumin and Mrs. Nuchanat, both from Sisaket province, are known for their commitment to the welfare of the predominantly agricultural community in their region. Their collaboration with Kla Tham Party aims to address local challenges.
Mr. Kunakorn Mannateerai, a lawyer with a focus on water issues in Nonthaburi, joins the party based on recommendations from local leaders. His action-oriented approach aligns with the party's objectives.
Mr. Wutthichai Kittithanesworn, a seasoned politician from Nakhon Nayok, introduced his son to the political landscape, aiming to continue their family's political legacy. Captain Thamanat emphasized the shared ideology among the new members, welcoming them to the Kla Tham family and highlighting their dedication to grassroots connections.
Addressing potential campaign interactions with members of the Bhumjaithai Party, Captain Thamanat reassured that elections are merely a competitive phase, with collaboration expected post-election. He also acknowledged interest from others in joining the party, noting the need for legal understanding before proceeding.
Mr. Chaiya shared his decision to join Kla Tham Party, citing its clear policies and commitment to the agricultural sector. Recognizing the economic challenges in Nong Bua Lamphu, he believes that the party's grassroots-focused policies can address these issues. He expressed that his decision was not self-serving but aimed at benefiting the people of the Northeast.
Confronting the "snake in the grass" perception, Mr. Chaiya clarified his choice of Kla Tham Party for its compatibility with various political factions. He emphasized collaboration over conflict and proposed policies, including farmer compensation, which remain a priority for the party.
Captain Thamanat concluded by dismissing the "snake" terminology, referring to their shared political journey from the Thai Rak Thai Party to the present, underscoring the unified family ethos within Kla Tham Party.
