Bangkok: Northern Thailand should be prepared for summer storms from March 3-6, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has warned that summer storms will occur in upper Thailand starting in the Northeast, with the East, Central, Bangkok, and surrounding areas, and the North regions being affected subsequently.
The department forecasts that over the next 24 hours, upper Thailand will experience hot weather with hazy conditions during the daytime, with scattered thunderstorms possible in some areas of the Northeast and East. This weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure system caused by heat covering upper Thailand, while southwesterly and southerly winds persist in these areas. Residents in upper Thailand are advised to take precautions for their health due to the hot weather and to be vigilant about the dangers of thunderstorms.
In the lower southern region, scattered thunderstorms are expected due to westerly and southwesterly winds affecting the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The Andaman Sea will experience waves approximately 1 meter high, exceeding 1 meter in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to avoid areas with thunderstorms.
During March 3-6, 2026, the summer storms will be characterized by thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall in some areas, with possible lightning strikes. This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over southern China, expected to move over the northeastern region and the South China Sea by March 3, 2026. Concurrently, upper Thailand is experiencing hot weather, combined with a westerly wind wave moving across the northern and upper northeastern regions.
Currently, the accumulation of particulate matter or haze in upper Thailand is at a low to moderate level due to moderate ventilation and the likelihood of rain in certain areas.
