MotoGP Thailand Unveils Thrilling ‘Tuk Tuk Grand Prix’ at 2026 Season Opener

Buriram: MotoGP Thailand has made headlines with its innovative "Tuk Tuk Grand Prix," marking a unique and unforgettable start to the 2026 season. The event, part of the 'PT Grand Prix of Thailand,' captivated audiences worldwide with its novel approach to motorsports.

According to Thai News Agency, the event, hosted at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, saw 22 premier class riders, including notable world champions such as Marc Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir, and Jorge Martin, taking on the challenge of piloting traditional Thai tuk-tuks. Among them, Jack Miller and Toprak Razgatlioglu from Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP team claimed victory in this amusing yet competitive race.

The "Tuk Tuk Challenge" was a creative twist on the usual Rider Parade, where MotoGP riders typically greet fans from trucks. On March 1st, 2026, the parade was transformed into a tuk-tuk speed competition, with all 22 MotoGP riders from 11 teams pairing up to race, creating a viral sensation that resonated with fans globally.

This initiative is part of MotoGP's strategic efforts to incorporate cultural elements of host countries into the racing experience, thereby enhancing tourism. The tuk-tuk, a symbol of Thai culture, served as a soft power asset in this endeavor, offering both entertainment and cultural promotion.

The successful execution of the 'Tuk Tuk Challenge' highlights MotoGP's innovative approach to engaging fans and promoting local culture, setting a precedent for future events in the racing calendar.
