Nakhon phanom: Nakhon Phanom is preparing to cope with rising Mekong River levels, deploying 26 water pumps and implementing measures for water prevention and management within the municipal area.
According to Thai News Agency, the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Public Relations Office reports that the province is closely monitoring the heavy rainfall in the area. Preparations have been made for drainage systems and are on alert to expedite water drainage and minimize the impact on the public and transportation.
Nakhon Phanom Province has integrated relevant agencies to install a total of 26 water pumps at 13 locations. These include: Nakhon Phanom Municipality (12 pumps at 6 locations), Nakhon Phanom Irrigation Project (7 pumps at 4 locations), Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 7 Sakon Nakhon (6 pumps at 5 locations), and the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (1 pump at 1 location). These four agencies have a combined pumping capacity of 38,070 cubic meters per hour. In addition, large mobile water pumping units from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center Region 7 Sakon Nakhon have been deployed to key locations to further enhance drainage efficiency in the area.
Meanwhile, at 7:00 AM on August 12, 2026, the Mekong River level in Nakhon Phanom Province was measured at 11.98 meters, an increase of 0.15 meters from the previous level, and only 0.02 meters below the warning/preparatory level. The province expects the Mekong River level to continue rising, which may affect the drainage system in the Nakhon Phanom municipal area. Therefore, relevant agencies have been instructed to prepare water pumps and other equipment to the fullest extent.
Nakhon Phanom Province urges residents to closely monitor official announcements and instructions, especially those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and to strictly follow official instructions. Meanwhile, relevant agencies continue to monitor rainfall, Mekong River water levels, and flooding situations to ensure timely assistance and problem-solving for the public.
