Bangkok: The National Security Council (NSCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stability and security during the government transition, emphasizing the ongoing duties of security units. The NSCC condemned the use of civilians by Cambodia to incite and create tensions, urging an end to these provocations to prevent disruptions at the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting.
According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Surasan Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration Task Force, along with Ms. Maratee Nalita Andamo and Ms. Sasikan Wattanachan, held a press conference addressing the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border. Rear Admiral Surasan assured that the situation remains stable, and the GBC meeting set for September 7-10 in Koh Kong Province, Cambodia, will proceed as planned, based on previous commitments in Malaysia.
Public concerns have arisen regarding the responsibilities of the NCPO during the transitional government. The NSCC reassured that national security operations and the Thai-Cambodian border situation are well-supported by law, with authority delegated to commanders at all levels, ensuring operations continue smoothly despite the NCPO's reduced role.
Ms. Maratee addressed concerns about the use of civilians in recent Cambodian protests, which the Royal Thai Army has clarified. The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had protested Thai actions, claiming hardships caused to the Cambodian community. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded, emphasizing that measures taken by Thai agencies are within Thailand's sovereignty and consistent with international and human rights principles.
The Thai government condemned Cambodia's actions and reiterated its commitment to peaceful resolution and the protection of Thai sovereignty. Thailand urged Cambodia to cease incitement and staged actions, which hinder peaceful resolution and peace establishment. Ms. Maratee expressed hope for sincere negotiations at the upcoming GBC meeting.
Ms. Sasikarn assured that despite the political transition, care for those affected by the Thai-Cambodian border situation will continue. All ministries and agencies are coordinating to provide relief and maintain normal operations, addressing economic, social, and security concerns. The government affirmed its dedication to protecting and rehabilitating affected individuals, ensuring national security and stability.
