Opposition Urges Government to Address Black-Chinned Tilapia Spread Seriously


Bangkok: The opposition has called on the government to address the issue of the black-chinned tilapia spreading across 19 provinces. Representatives from the opposition received a petition from protesters affected by the fish’s spread, urging the government to tackle the issue with urgency and sincerity.



According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, a Member of Parliament for Bangkok from the Prachachon Party, stated that the opposition has been aware of this problem for some time. He emphasized that the spread of the black-chinned tilapia poses a threat to both farmers and the ecosystem on a large scale. Mr. Wiroj expressed hope that the government would implement more serious measures to address the issue and act straightforwardly to alleviate the suffering caused.



The opposition is committed to urgently pushing for parliamentary processes and mechanisms to address the matter seriously. Mr. Wiroj stressed that the government must acknowledge the severity of the spread, which has impacted the livelihoods and quality of life of the affected populations. He urged the government to act within the legal framework and develop guidelines to prevent similar issues in the future, with the belief that the problem can be resolved sustainably.
