People’s Party Candidate Arrest Sparks Urgent Statement from PDRC

Bangkok: The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) has issued an urgent statement following the arrest of a parliamentary candidate from Tak province, linked to a gambling website. The People's Party, in response to the incident, has stressed its commitment to combating corruption and questionable behavior while urging the government to take genuine action against such activities.

According to Thai News Agency, the People's Party's urgent statement was released shortly after Mr. Ratchapong Soisuwan, the party's candidate for Tak Constituency 2, was arrested by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) for alleged involvement with an online gambling platform. The party was informed of Mr. Ratchapong's arrest by his lawyer the previous night.

Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, the leader of the People's Party, addressed the media, reiterating that the party maintains a strict policy against any form of questionable conduct, including corruption and online gambling. He emphasized that any party member implicated in such activities would not receive protection and must face the judicial system to establish their innocence.

The People's Party has a history of investigating any accusations against its members, regardless of their position, through its disciplinary or executive committees. Past cases, such as the investigation into a former Move Forward Party member accused of misconduct, illustrate the party's commitment to accountability, with appropriate consequences for proven wrongdoing.

The party's zero-tolerance stance extends to all forms of corruption and crime, and it firmly hopes that the government's actions will target influential political figures and criminal networks involved in illegal activities. The People's Party calls for genuine efforts to address these issues rather than actions driven by political motives ahead of elections.
