Bangkok: Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, emphasized that the authority to propose a censure motion rests with the House Speaker. This statement comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding the inclusion of Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, in a no-confidence motion, which the House Speaker has decided to exclude from the agenda.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham, who is also a leader of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the situation by urging adherence to established rules rather than emotional responses. He emphasized the importance of following the process outlined by the House and the necessity for the three whips to engage in discussions to resolve the matter.
Mr. Phumtham reiterated that the resolution lies within the established procedures of the House, and any insistence from the opposition should be backed by the law rather than personal intentions. He highlighted the role of Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, the Speaker of the House, in making decisions based on rules and urged that these decisions be respected. Should the opposition wish to debate the issue, Mr. Phumtham indicated that they must bear the responsibility for their actions. He also suggested that if the current regulations are deemed inadequate, the Prachachon Party should propose amendments.
