Prime Minister Expedites Committee Formation for Land Bridge Project Amid Opposition

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has announced an acceleration in the formation of a committee to study the proposed land bridge project, while abstaining from commenting on the considerable opposition from local communities. The announcement was made as part of efforts to ensure the project aligns with current needs and circumstances.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul presided over a weekly meeting with MPs from the Bhumjaithai Party. When questioned by reporters regarding the agenda for the upcoming Cabinet meeting scheduled for May 5th, Mr. Anutin chose not to disclose any details, stating only that he would attend the party meeting first.

Inquiries regarding the government's response to potential protests against the land bridge construction in the southern region were met with the Prime Minister's assurance that the formation of the committee was being expedited. This move aims to carefully study the project and its implications to ensure they are suitable for the present context.

Despite further questions about the widespread opposition to the project, the Prime Minister refrained from responding and proceeded to enter the meeting room.
