Bangkok: The Prime Minister expressed sorrow over the train-bus collision and instructed that full support and compensation be provided, as well as expediting the identification process. The tragic incident occurred when a bus crashed into a highway pillar on Asoke-Din Daeng Road, at the Rama 9-Asoke-Phetchaburi intersection near Makkasan railway crossing, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister visited the site alongside Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul and received a situation report from the National Police Chief. During an interview after inspecting the accident site, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and those injured. He emphasized the need for full care for the injured and a speedy identification process for the deceased.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of providing the greatest possible assistance to the victims and the injured. He mentioned that upon his return to Bangkok from the provinces, he immediately went to the scene to assess the situation. He also stated that security measures are likely already in place with both the BMTA and the State Railway of Thailand and that a thorough investigation is needed to understand why this incident occurred.
When questioned about the evidence showing that the bus had straddled the train tracks, he deferred detailed comments until he had spoken with the Police Chief. The Prime Minister acknowledged the need to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to prevent future occurrences.
