Bangkok: The Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Independence Monument. Prime Minister Paetongtarn laid a wreath at the Independence Palace and paid homage to the statue of King Norodom Sihanouk on the occasion of her official visit to Cambodia.
According to Thai News Agency, at 2:30 p.m. Phnom Penh time, which aligns with the time in Thailand, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, and her entourage traveled to lay a wreath at the Independence Monument. They were welcomed by representatives of the Cambodian Ministry of Defense.
The Independence Monument, located in the heart of Phnom Penh, is one of Cambodia's most historically significant monuments. Built in 1958, it commemorates the declaration of independence of Cambodia. The monument is architecturally styled after Angkor Wat, featuring a lotus-shaped stupa. It remains a popular site for both relaxation and visits in Phnom Penh.
Later, at 2:40 p.m., the Prime Minister and her entourage proceeded to lay a wreath and pay homage to the Monument of Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh, the Late King-Father of Cambodia. They were received by representatives from the Ministry of the Royal Palace of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
This memorial, constructed in 2013, honors the former king, King Norodom Sihanouk, and is situated on the eastern side of the Independence Monument. It serves as a place of homage to the late king, with many Cambodians visiting annually on October 15, the anniversary of his death.
