Bangkok: Assoc. Prof. Pol. Lt. Col. Dr. Kritsanapong submitted a letter to the Senate Legal Committee proposing an education reform model, emphasizing that universities must be models of good governance.
According to Thai News Agency, Associate Professor Pol. Lt. Col. Dr. Kritsanaphong Pootrakool, Vice President for Security and Chairman of the Faculty of Criminology and Justice Administration at Rangsit University, has advanced a proposal to the Parliamentary Committee for an "educational reform model." The proposal's primary focus is on transforming universities across the nation into exemplars of good governance and transparency.
Dr. Kritsanapong highlighted the pressing issues of corruption and cybercrime, including scams, plaguing Thailand. He emphasized the pivotal role universities should play in cultivating individuals with strong moral values and serving as transparent institutions within society.
In addressing the quality of Thai education, the proposal referenced the latest World Population Review 2025 rankings, which placed Thailand 8th in ASEAN, trailing behind countries like Singapore and Vietnam. This underscores the necessity for the government and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) to reinforce oversight mechanisms. It calls for university councils to implement good governance practices effectively.
An urgent concern is the Student Loan Fund crisis, reflecting the broader issue of insufficient funds for student loans, which is identified as a national challenge requiring immediate attention.
