Bangkok: Public Health Minister Phatthana Phromphat repeatedly expressed uncertainty when questioned by the media about whether he would retain his role in the next government. He consistently responded with "I don't know" when pressed on the issue.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phatthana affirmed his willingness to perform any duty assigned to him and highlighted the importance of assessing risks related to the Middle East situation, which may impact the importation of medical equipment and medicines. He also mentioned the possibility of adjusting the budget plan to address these concerns.
Mr. Phatthana announced plans to visit Buriram Province on March 8th to attend a seminar for Bhumjaithai Party MPs. When asked about his future ministerial role, he humorously replied, "Looking at the camera, I'll just say, 'I don't know,'" and continued to maintain this stance throughout the questioning.
Despite being pressed on whether the Prime Minister had indicated he might continue in his current role, Mr. Phatthana maintained his response of uncertainty but shared a light moment with civil servants, indicating his focus on current duties rather than future positions.
Regarding the Ministry of Public Health's readiness to address the Middle East situation, Mr. Phatthana noted that high-level ministry executives had met to discuss resource conservation. Although a shortage of medical equipment is not anticipated, he expressed concern about the impact on imports and transportation, as certain essential items are imported and critical for patient care.
Mr. Phatthana emphasized the need to prepare for potential delays in delivery times should the situation escalate, aligning with the ministry's medical security policy to ensure adequate supplies for the public.
When questioned about discussions with supplier countries, Mr. Phatthana stated that each agency would need to evaluate procurement processes and potential risks, with assessments submitted for review to determine if budget adjustments were warranted.
As reporters continued to inquire about his potential continuation at the Ministry of Public Health, Mr. Phatthana deflected with humor, thanking the media before proceeding to a meeting at the command building.
