Rail System Usage Surges During Long Holiday, Government Pledges Inclusive Transit Development

Bangkok: Aim to develop mass transit systems to reach all groups of people equally. Deputy government spokesman reveals that during the long holiday, more than 1.23 million people used the rail system, reflecting confidence in the convenient and safe transportation system. He confirmed that the government is committed to developing the mass transit system to be efficient and reach all groups of people equally.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that during the continuous holidays on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen's Birthday Anniversary between May 31 - June 3, 2025, more than 1.23 million people nationwide used the rail system, reflecting confidence in the convenient and safe transportation system.

By intercity trains of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), there were 213 trains in service, with 76,538 passengers/trips, while electric trains in the Bangkok metropolitan area and surrounding areas, including suburban electric trains, provided 2,806 trips, with a total of 1,155,523 passengers/trips.

Of these, the BTS Green Line had the highest number of passengers at 597,231 people-trips, followed by the Blue Line at 306,830 people-trips, and the Pink Line, which opened for free trial service, had 68,643 passengers-trips, especially the section from Muang Thong Thani Station to Muang Thong Thani Lake, which had the highest number of passengers in history, following the THAIFEX Anuga 2025 trade fair held in the Muang Thong Thani area.

The government, through the Department of Rail Transport, Ministry of Transport, has urged all agencies to strictly implement facilitation and safety measures, increase the number of officers to inspect the system along the route, and cooperate with various provinces to assign volunteers to station at illegal intersections. The government also asks for the public's cooperation to stop their vehicles at least 5 meters before the railway intersection and strictly follow traffic signals to prevent accidents.
