Residential Fire in Shantou Claims 12 Lives

Shantou: A residential fire in China has resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals. According to Xinhua, China's official news agency, the fire erupted in a residential building in Shantou, located in southern China. The event took place on Tuesday evening at 9:20 PM local time, and firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control approximately 40 minutes later.

According to Thai News Agency, The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, as authorities work to determine what sparked the fatal incident. This tragedy follows closely on the heels of another devastating fire in Hong Kong, where the death toll has reached 160, marking it as the deadliest fire in the region in decades. In response, Chinese leaders are advocating for enhanced fire safety measures across residential properties.

This incident in Shantou is part of a troubling pattern of fatal fires occurring throughout China. In April, a fire in an elderly care facility in northern Hebei province claimed 20 lives, while a subsequent fire at a restaurant in northeast China resulted in 22 deaths. These incidents have prompted a nationwide fire safety inspection of high-rise buildings in China, aimed at preventing future tragedies.
