Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army is preparing to request royal patronage for the awarding of the "Medal of Valor" to its personnel who have demonstrated extraordinary courage while serving in the field along the Thai-Cambodian border to defend Thai sovereignty.
According to Thai News Agency, personnel under the command of General Chakrabongse Bhuvanath have shown exceptional dedication during the Battle of Yutthabodin in July 2068 and the Battle of Satthawat in December 2068. These soldiers have faced critical situations that posed life-threatening risks but remained committed to their mission of protecting national sovereignty.
General Phana Klaewplodthuk, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, acknowledges the sacrifices made by these soldiers. He has instructed the Army Personnel Department to prepare a proposal for royal bestowal of the Medal of Valor. This initiative aims to honor the soldiers' bravery, acknowledge their sacrifices, and boost morale, providing a lasting source of pride for them and their families.
The Army Personnel Department is currently reviewing the qualifications and missions of each soldier, including those who died in action. A committee at the Army level is conducting this review in accordance with the criteria set in the Medal of Valor Act of 1978. Once the review is complete, the names will be submitted to the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence to request royal patronage, ensuring the soldiers receive the recognition they deserve.
