Bangkok: Senator Wiwat expressed confidence that Thailand can handle the energy crisis, emphasizing the stability of the Oil Fund and urging the public not to panic and stockpile oil. He believes that if a resolution to the conflict is reached through negotiations, oil prices will gradually decrease.
According to Thai News Agency, Senator Wiwat Kraipisitkul, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Industry, commented on the impact of the unrest in the Middle East, stating that US President Donald J. Trump's claim that the war would end within four weeks is both possible and impossible. He noted the use of strong measures and Iran's technologically advanced allies, emphasizing the need for weekly monitoring. He believes a mediator will eventually be necessary, otherwise a third world war could erupt, causing global turmoil.
Senator Wiwat highlighted that Thailand has a well-structured oil reserve system, unlike neighboring countries, and urged the public to avoid panic buying. He pointed out that the oil fund, which previously showed a deficit of over 100 billion baht, is now in the surplus. He believes the government can strike a balance, and if the US and Iran reach an agreement, oil prices are expected to gradually decrease, allowing the oil fund to reduce its debt. Therefore, he urged the public not to panic regarding energy issues.
