Trat: Senators have announced their determination to continue their legislative duties undeterred by the ongoing "Senate collusion" case. They plan to address significant issues such as Koh Kood, the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), and natural disaster management at a press conference in Trat.
According to Thai News Agency, the Senate Committee organized a press conference to highlight its achievements, emphasizing that their work will carry on unabated until a court ruling is issued on the collusion case. Senator Pisit Apiwatthanapong moderated the panel discussion titled "Opening the Hot Issues: Committee Issues the Media Shouldn't Miss," as part of the Senate's mobile press conference initiative in Trat Province. The discussions were categorized among different Senate committees, with each focusing on their respective agendas. Notably, Mr. Thanatchapong Wongmulalee of the Committee on Military and State Security announced plans for restructuring ISOC to address unrest in the South more effectively.
Mr. Chawaphon Watthanavekin, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasized the importance of maintaining Thai sovereignty in Koh Kood and reaffirmed adherence to the UNCLOS framework following the cancellation of MOU 44. He expressed the need for infrastructure development to connect remote areas, ensuring the protection of Thai citizens' rights and interests. Meanwhile, Ms. Ratchaneekorn Thongthip from the Natural Resources and Environment Committee advocated for comprehensive disaster management policies, proposing a centralized data system to enhance disaster response efficiency.
The Energy Committee, represented by Mr. Sampan Chaiwisetjinda, highlighted the necessity of ensuring national energy security and fair electricity pricing. Simultaneously, Mr. Pisut Sapvichit from the Religious Affairs Committee addressed the challenges facing the Thai music industry, particularly the need to reclaim ownership rights from foreign platforms.
Ms. Aree Banjongthurakan, spokesperson for the Public Health Committee, clarified that the Senate has no intentions of abolishing the universal healthcare scheme. Instead, efforts are focused on improving healthcare systems and protecting patient rights. She reassured that the Senate's authority remains intact until the Supreme Court decides otherwise regarding the collusion case.
