Surin: Residents of Surin who fled the fighting on the Thai-Cambodian border are gradually returning to their homes. The border situation has remained quiet, with no reports of gunfire or clashes.
According to Thai News Agency, the return of villagers follows the signing of a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, which took effect at noon yesterday. The agreement has provided a sense of relief to those who had been displaced since the outbreak of hostilities earlier this month.
Among those returning is Mr. Samai, a paralyzed villager from Bak Dai subdistrict in Phanom Dong Rak district. Alongside his daughter, he loaded his belongings onto a motorcycle with a sidecar to make the journey back to Ta Kwai Temple. Mr. Samai, who had been evacuated since the initial clashes on December 7, 2025, expressed skepticism about Cambodia's adherence to the ceasefire, stating his readiness to evacuate again if necessary. Despite his concerns, the situation on the border in Surin province has been calm, with no new incidents reported as of this morning.
