Thai Athletes Set New SEA Games Record with 233 Gold Medals

Bangkok: The government has expressed its gratitude to the Thai athletes for their remarkable achievement in winning the overall gold medal count for the 14th time at the SEA Games. This victory breaks the previous record set by Vietnam in 2021.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, conveyed the government's appreciation to all Thai athletes, coaches, and related personnel for their dedication and commitment. The athletes made a significant mark for Thailand at the 33rd SEA Games, held from December 9-20, 2025. Thailand secured a total of 499 medals, including 233 gold, 154 silver, and 112 bronze medals. This remarkable feat ensured Thailand topped the overall gold medal tally for the 14th time, surpassing Vietnam's record of 205 medals set in 2021.

The 33rd SEA Games are also expected to generate economic value exceeding 12 billion baht. This includes both direct revenue from the competitions and other contributing factors, marking a significant economic impact compared to other major sporting events held in the past.

Ms. Airin also praised Thai supporters for their enthusiastic cheering, both in the stadium and at home, which created a positive impression on athletes and foreign fans. She emphasized that beyond victory, it was the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship, and unity within ASEAN that highlighted Thailand's cultural values and soft power as a host.
