Budapest: A Thai-inspired fashion show in Budapest has successfully showcased Thai identity to the world. A fashion show featuring eight royal-approved Thai traditional dresses and modern adaptations was held at the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest, promoting Thai art and culture to a wider international audience.
According to Thai News Agency, the event took place on April 27, 2026, at the Anantara Hotel in Budapest, Hungary. The fashion show highlighted eight styles of traditional Thai royal attire and modern adaptations, designed by Thai designer Passa Tanno's PASSA silkwear. Models included Thai students in Hungary and members of the Royal Thai Embassy's Friends of Thailand group.
The fashion show was part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' efforts to promote Thai traditional clothing globally. This initiative aligns with the nomination of "Thai Traditional Clothing: Knowledge, Craftsmanship, and Practices of National Costume" as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2026. The event was attended by the Ambassador, the diplomatic corps, notable figures from the Hungarian fashion industry, and various representatives from the private sector and the Thai community. The show presented an opportunity to introduce eight royal Thai dress styles and modern adaptations to top Hungarian fashion brands such as MERO, Katti Zo³b, and Zema Jewels, attracting a significant audience.
The Thai Trade Center in Budapest also presented Thai fabrics from provinces like Nan, Surin, Nong Bua Lamphu, Chaiyaphum, and Saraburi for sale at the event. Moreover, attendees could enjoy a smart photo booth service to capture themselves in different Thai costumes, developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Any I Media of Thailand.
Apart from the fashion show, attendees were treated to Thai dance performances, a Khon performance, and the opportunity to try Thai handicrafts. These activities were presented by Professor Nipon Klamklomjit's performing arts troupe from Burapha University. Additionally, there was a violin performance by Mr. Pongpairoj Lertsudvichai, a Thai music student in Hungary. The Embassy also provided attendees with special edition Mama Cup noodles featuring Thai costume designs and silk coin pouches as souvenirs.
This event was a collaborative effort between the Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest and the Anantara Budapest Hotel, with support from several Thai government and private sector organizations. These included the Thai Trade Center in Budapest, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (Prague Office), PASSA silkwear, Thai President Foods (Hungary), Burapha University, KT Entertainment, and the Thai Student Association in Hungary. The aim was to promote Thai art and culture to an international audience.
