Bangkok: The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently opened its drug warehouse to inspect over 77 tons of seized drugs from 54,097 cases. This action was taken to ensure transparency and prevent the re-entry of narcotics into society.
According to Thai News Agency, the inspection process was led by Pharmacist Supatra Boonsearm, Secretary-General of the FDA, in collaboration with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). They opened a secure vault used for storing narcotics and conducted random checks to verify the authenticity of the drugs scheduled for destruction.
Pharmacist Ms. Suphatra emphasized that the seized drugs, including over 40 tons of methamphetamine pills, alongside crystal meth, heroin, and other narcotics, were officially handed over to the ONCB. This marked the 61st drug destruction operation, titled "BURN FOR BETT," which aims to prevent the re-entry of narcotics into the system and bolster confidence in the country's drug management process while ensuring transparency in government operations.
The FDA reinforced its vital role in managing seized narcotics, which involves receiving, storing, and verifying the authenticity of the drugs, as well as checking case numbers, types, and weights. The Department of Medical Sciences conducts random analyses, and the FDA coordinates the destruction process with partner agencies. This comprehensive procedure ensures that the seized narcotics are destroyed legally, correctly, transparently, and traceably, preventing their re-entry into society.
