Thai Military Refutes Former MP’s Allegations on Security Issues

Bangkok: Responding to accusations from Jiratth Thongsuwan, a former Member of Parliament for Chachoengsao from the People's Party, the Thai military has urged him to cease distorting truths that could harm national security and divert public attention for political purposes. Major General Witai Laythomya, the spokesperson for the Royal Thai Armed Forces, addressed the criticisms directed at the military's administration and the Ministry of Defence Organization Act by Mr. Jiratth, highlighting the need for opinions on security issues to be grounded in facts and social responsibility.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jiratth is currently appealing a lower court's verdict in a case involving the use of forged official documents. The military emphasized the importance of relying on the judicial process to establish facts, rather than disseminating potentially misleading information. They expressed concern that distorted security information for political advantage might foster social division and erode confidence in national institutions.

The military also countered claims of operating above the law, affirming that all its activities comply with the Constitution and are subject to government and parliamentary oversight. They reinforced the point that criticism of security matters should be accurate, complete, and legally informed. The credibility of individuals with convictions related to forgery in criticizing legal institutions was also questioned.

The Thai military called for comprehensive use of information and respect for facts, advising Mr. Jiratth to pursue his case through legal channels rather than inciting conflict with inaccurate information. They reiterated their commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and security under the rule of law and social responsibility.
