Thailand Aims to Lead in Digital and AI Technology Development

Accra:The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is working to establish a strong foundation to drive the country towards becoming a leader in digital and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The focus is on enhancing AI capabilities among the public to support the future digital infrastructure.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, highlighted that the recent International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026 in Thailand featured discussions on the future of the digital world and AI. These discussions touched on the risks AI poses to global employment as well as the opportunities it presents.

The Thai government recognizes its role in developing technological infrastructure to support the private sector without competing with it. By doing so, the government aims to empower the private sector to reach its full potential and expand in international markets.

Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti emphasized Thailand's positioning as a "Trusted Connector" at the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026. This role envisions Thailand as a reliable hub for global cooperation, helping the country navigate challenges like geopolitical issues and AI impacts. A primary concern is integrating Thailand into the global AI supply chain to enhance the skills of its people.

The government's objective is to transform the public's AI skills, enabling them to evolve from users to developers and entrepreneurs. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society prioritizes laying this foundation during the transitional phase, ensuring Thailand is an active participant in the global AI supply chain rather than a passive follower.
