Thailand Airports Witness Significant Growth as Country Aims for Aviation Hub Status

Bangkok: The government is committed to building the potential of Thai airports. The Port Authority showcased the potential of Thai airports, with passengers exceeding 68 million, pushing Thailand to become a leading regional aviation hub.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) reported its operating results for the first 6 months of fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 - March 2025), indicating substantial growth.

The report highlighted that the 6 airports under AOT's management-Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport, Chiang Mai Airport, Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai Airport, Phuket Airport, and Hat Yai Airport-experienced a total of 414,377 flights, marking a 12.90 percent increase from the same period last year. This included 237,511 international flights and 176,866 domestic flights. The total number of passengers reached 68.42 million, an 11.76 percent rise, with 42.34 million international passengers and 26.08 million domestic passengers. This surge resulted in aviation business revenue of 18,188.15 million baht, up by 17.82 percent, while total revenue was 36,235.82 million baht, a 5.98 percent rise, culminating in a net profit of 10,397.57 million baht.

A significant factor contributing to this growth has been the advancement of service systems incorporating world-class technology. Implementations such as the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) system, Automated Border Control (ABC) system for e-Passport holders, and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) form, which replaced the paper TM.6 form from May 1, 2025, have been instrumental.

Furthermore, Thai airports have received international recognition, being ranked and awarded by prestigious institutions. They secured the 39th spot for the best airport in the world by Skytrax, moving up 19 places, and were named the 3rd most developed airport globally. The SAT-1 building also garnered the Prix Versailles 2024 award as the most beautiful airport in the world.

Ms. Sasikarn expressed gratitude to the people, entrepreneurs, and all sectors that have contributed to advancing the Thai aviation and tourism industries. She emphasized the government's commitment to elevating Thai airports to world-class standards, supporting sustainable economic and tourism growth. AOT's success underscores Thailand's capability to become a regional aviation hub, with future efforts focused on fostering quality growth and boosting global traveler confidence.
