Thailand Braces for Continuous Rainfall and Potential Tropical Cyclone

Bangkok: Thailand is set to experience prolonged rainfall from August 22 to September 1, 2025, with the possibility of storms developing in the South China Sea.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rain across the nation, with some areas expected to receive heavy downpours. The department is closely monitoring a low-pressure system in the South China Sea, which may intensify into a tropical cyclone.

Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Meteorological Department's Weather Forecast Division, highlighted that increased rainfall between August 22-24 is attributed to the southwest monsoon and a monsoon trough affecting Thailand. Additionally, a low-pressure area in the central South China Sea is showing signs of intensification and might approach the northern coast of Vietnam. The potential development into a tropical cyclone necessitates careful monitoring as its path and strength remain uncertain.

From August 24th to 27th, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the North and upper Northeast, raising concerns of flooding and landslides. This period aligns with the potential development of a storm, with persistent rain anticipated until early September. Residents in vulnerable areas, especially in the North and upper Northeast, are advised to remain alert for heavy rainfall and the risk of flash floods and mudslides.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution due to slippery roads and fluctuating weather conditions. Organizers of outdoor events should prepare for rain by arranging tents and umbrellas. Farmers are encouraged to plan for water drainage in high-water areas and storage in regions with less rainfall, in anticipation of decreased precipitation in early September. Close attention to weather updates from the Meteorological Department is recommended for all.
