Bangkok: Lawyers for Thaksin Shinawatra have confirmed the submission of a parole application to the Department of Corrections, aiming for a release on May 11th. The application process commenced at 7:00 AM.
According to Thai News Agency, former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, along with her husband Pitak Sukhsawat, visited Thaksin Shinawatra, who was accompanied by his lawyer, Winyat Chatmontri. After a 50-minute visit, Ms. Paetongtarn reported that her father is in good health, noting an improvement in his insomnia. Their conversation centered on his legal case, steering clear of topics such as the unrest in the Middle East or politics. She expressed optimism for his release, stating that her lawyer is managing the parole documents.
Following their visit, Ms. Paetongtarn and Mr. Pitak met with classmates from Montfort College, Chiang Mai, class of 1965, and supporters from the Red Shirts group.
Mr. Winyat confirmed that the necessary parole documents have been submitted, and the Department of Corrections will review the application. He refrained from further involvement, noting that if the parole meets the criteria and is approved, Mr. Thaksin will be released on May 11th at around 7:00 AM. On the matter of a defamation lawsuit against those who have slandered Mr. Thaksin, the lawyers have taken action. Mr. Winyat stressed that individuals spreading fake news for likes and political advantage will be held accountable, focusing legal actions on the principal parties involved.
